Institute of Public Administration (IPAC) Alberta Communications Assistant (Contract)
Position Type: Contract (approximately 5-10 hours/week depending on the task; 6 month contract with
possibility of extension)
Wage: $18-20 per hour
Reports To: Communications Liaison, IPAC Alberta
Location: Alberta (remote/hybrid)
Key Deliverables: Website update and management; event and promotional content creation

The Institute of Public Administration (IPAC) Alberta, as part of a national practice, connects public servants across the province to exchange ideas, build relationships, and advance excellence in public administration. IPAC Alberta is a proud member of IPAC Canada, and is one of many regional IPAC groups across the country.
Key Deliverables
IPAC Alberta is seeking a proactive, organized, and creative Communications Assistant to strengthen our digital presence and communications reach. This role will help update and maintain a modern, user‑friendly website; develop event and promotional materials, and assist with other communication-related tasks. The successful candidate will work closely with IPAC Alberta leadership to ensure consistent, professional, and effective outreach.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with website development experience, able to work independently, and help elevate IPAC Alberta’s public and member outreach.
Digital & Website Management

Propose design and functional improvements to the current IPAC Alberta website (layout, navigation, usability, accessibility, etc.).

Complete design and functional improvements to the current IPAC website.

Collaborate with IPAC Alberta for technical support as needed.

Assist with social media posting for events and promotion, as required.
Communications & Content Development

Draft, design, and update communication materials including (but not limited to) web content, posters, brochures, and promotional graphics in alignment with IPAC Canada standards.

Maintain an organized inventory of templates, logos, files, and communications material.
Collaborative Support

Work with IPAC Alberta Board Members to identify communications needs and priorities.

Support communications tasks as they arise.
Qualifications & Skills

Experience with website design and content management platforms (e.g. Wix) and digital communications tools (e.g. LinkedIn).

Experience with web-based file systems (e.g., SharePoint, Google Drive).

Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Experience developing promotional or educational materials (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).

Organized and detail‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with volunteers and national partners.

Familiarity with communications, non‑profit environments, or membership associations is an asset.
